The Upper Concourse Gallery of the Rockville Centre Public Library
will feature the photographs of Darlene Cunnup throughout the month of
December. Darlene's work typically focuses on subjects from nature
including flowers, birds, landscapes, insects, and scenics. Originally
from South Carolina, Ms. Cunnup now lives and works on long Island.
She took classes at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South
Carolina and graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in
MahattanNew York. She credits her “camera know how” to watching her
dad take photos when she was growing up. Ms. Cunnup’s photograph’s
have appeared in newspapers across the country and have been published
in books by the international Library of Photography. She has also
published work in Tour Books of a number of musicians. She exhibits
her work in local music studios, pet grooming salons, coffee houses,
and libraries across Long Island.

Exciting Watercolor Techniques

Students will be introduced to wonderful, free-flowing techniques for
painting in watercolor. Ed will encourage exploration of color possibilities
and bold brush strokes to create personal expression in your paintings.

FOR THE SELECTION

OF THE NEXT NASSAU COUNTY POET LAUREATE 

The Nassau County Poet Laureate (NCPL) Selection Committee is accepting candidate submissions for our next NCPL, to be acclaimed by the poetry community in June 2009.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Any Nassau County resident may suggest ONE local poet for this position; include your contact information, as well as the candidate’s contact information (name, address, phone, e-mail address).
  2. Poets may submit their own names for consideration.
  3. Send your submission via email (preferred) to PaulaCamF@aol.com or mail them to Paula Camacho, PO Box 4104, Farmingdale, NY 11735, marked with the initials NCPL on the lower left side of the envelope.
  4. The DEADLINE is January 30, 2009.  

To be considered for the position of Nassau County Poet Laureate (NCPL), the person you recommend must be a resident of Nassau County, remain a resident for the length of the two-year term, and be eighteen years of age or older. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in poetry and be a dedicated advocate of poetry in the educational and cultural life of Nassau County. Further information will be asked of the poet during the selection process.  All candidates will be screened by the NCPL Selection Committee to determine finalists.                        Please spread the word.
